Neurological Pathophysiology

چکیده

The neurosciences and neurology seem fearsome adversaries to many medical students. They are rapidly changing disciplines, and seem unnaturally beholden to vocabulary, concepts, and techniques far removed from those associated with the study of other organ systems. It is in an area such as this that a book aimed at students making the transition between the classroom and the wards can be most useful. There is a need for readable monographs which can illuminate the unity of the discipline rather than present a series of areas of intense research interest. The organization of this work is comprehensive. Part I is composed of eleven chapters describing functional and anatomical systems, while the eight chapters of Part II are devoted to various disease processes. It is a good plan for a book, but the end result is less than satisfying. The book does not flow well. This is a problem for many multi-authored works and may merely be a reflection of the Byzantine nature of the field, but one hopes for a greater degree of clarity and continuity of style in an introductory text. Nonetheless, the work is comprehensive and contains a wealth of useful information and references for the medical student or the neuroscientist; some students will undoubtedly find it to be of great merit.

Nitrosative stress indices in dogs with neurological form of canine distemper

This is a prospective, controlled, randomized clinical study to evidence the role of nitrosative stress in development of overt neurological sign of canine distemper (CD). The enrollment of cases wasa made on basis of overt sign of CD (n=139) and the findings were compared with apparently healthy dogs (n=15). The CD specific immunoglobulins resulted in 94 confirmed positive cases. The nitric ox...

What do eye movements tell us about patients with neurological disorders? — An introduction to saccade recording in the clinical setting —

Non-invasive and readily implemented in the clinical setting, eye movement studies have been conducted extensively not only in healthy human subjects but also in patients with neurological disorders. The purpose of saccade studies is to "read out" the pathophysiology underlying neurological disorders from the saccade records, referring to known primate physiology. In the current review, we prov...

Applications of Optogenetics as Alternative Treatment for Neurological Diseases

Neurological diseases are some of the most devastating illnesses due to the limited understanding of the complex nervous system network and its intricate functions. Moreover, lack of basic understanding in pathophysiology of disease hinders the development of new treatment. Optogenetics is a biological technique involving light modulated cells in living tissue. Successful application of this te...
